Inspiration

In November 2004 we were holidaying as usual on Tresco on the Isles of Scilly. My daughter Jessica was five years old and bought a teddy bear from the Abbey Gardens.

Needing a bottle of Chablis, we walked to the Island stores and were asked by a young lady behind the till what we were going to name the new teddy. Jessie wasn't sure so after a few moments thought, the lady suggested "Gimble" after Gimble Porth a picturesque inlet on the Island.

I left the stores thinking "Gimble Porth" - what a wonderful name for a children's book character and following a walk over the north side of Tresco I had thought up at least five titles, the first of which is Gimble Porth And The Grand Opening.
